What if my property is Listed?

Fitting flood protection to Listed Buildings

If a building is listed it would probably need LBC to have flood protection fitted.

These applications will usually be determined within 8 weeks by most councils and there are usually no fees.

Conservation teams will try and cooperate where possible and allow flood protection, where this does not contravene legislative requirements to protect Listed Buildings.
The problem will come where a door is of particular historic value, in which case flood protection will probably not be allowed and they suggest that owners looks to alternative methods such as sandbags.

At FLOODWALL we work hard to make sure our protection is as unobtrusive as possible. Take a look at some Examples.

How good are Floodwalls?

The BS Kitemark® tests allow up to 60 Litres of water to leak through per day . FLOODWALL does not leak - it is 100% water tight.  In fact, the more water there is the better it seals!

Even recent testing by the Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service couldn't shift them!

How easy is Floodwall to fit?

It is extremely easy to deploy - you simply take the FLOODWALL cover to the door, window, or airbrick, slot in the bottom edge and click in the latches. All but the longest FLOODWALLS can be carried by one person (children and senior citizens included) and fitted in under 20 seconds.  An average door weighs about 6KG (13lbs).

What about ground water rising under my house?

No Problem.  Most houses have a cavity under the house.  FLOODWALL has developed an easy way to keep the water from your floor. Please ask for details

Where can I store the panels when not in use?

As the panels are extremely light, rust-proof and almost indestructible, they can be stored almost anywhere, including outside. Being very slim, they can be stored in a shed, down a side ally or in your garage. We alawys provide and install complimentary storage hooks for you.

Why does the protection only come part of the way up my property?

There are two main reasons:
  1. With the system in place you can still gain entry.

  2. If the protection came much higher and the flood waters rose to that level, the building could be damaged as the property would try to float like a boat. We feel that a wet property is better than one beyond repair! Remember that most floods are only eighteen inches deep.

How much will it cost?

The cost of installing the FLOODWALL system will depend on the number of doors, air bricks, downstairs toilets, showers, baths etc., you have.

The cost of fitting a FLOODWALL door can be as little as £595+vat (including all parts and installation by trained fitters) – relatively low when compared to the cost of being flooded, staying in a hotel, drying out the building and replacing damaged furniture and possessions!

...Especially when you consider the additional prospect of being unable to re-insure your property or having your premiums and excess rocket out of all proportion. Insurance ‘Excesses’ of £20k are becoming the norm for flooded properties - FLOODWALL can save you money!

How long will it take to install it?

The system can be fitted to an average house in less than a day. All parts are custom made to order, it can take up to 28 days before installation can begin.

What is the largest door you can cover?

The largest FLOODWALL panels installed to date covered over 4.8m width. However the system can cover up to 12m using several panels that clip together.

My property is a Grade II Listed building - can I use the Floodwall system?

Most of the products supplied by FLOODWALL have been approved for use on Grade II Listed buildings.

What is the point of this protection if I don't know when to put the covers up?

Register with the environment agency and they will contact you when there is imminent risk of flooding. When you hear the warning you can immediately deploy the FLOODWALLS, or if you are out or away you could phone a neighbour.
