Are you at risk? Floods can happen anywhere at anytime, caused by factors like flash-flooding, hillside run-off from sudden rain, rising ground water levels and blocked & burst water drains.

Experience has too often shown that we can’t rely on national flood defences being implemented in time.

If any of the following conditions apply to you then your property is liable to be at risk in the wake of flash flooding:

  • You live near a flood plain, river, stream or the sea
  • You live in a low lying area / at the bottom of a hill or valley
  • The drains near your property become easily blocked
  • You live in a localised area or by roads where drainage systems are unable to cope with sudden heavy rainfall

If you think you could be at risk and want to find out the chance of flooding in your area, there are two possible courses of action:

  1. Visit the Environment Agency’s FLOODMAP on their website and plug in your postcode
  2. Telephone for Early Flood Warnings - Some areas at risk from flooding can receive early warnings by telephone. To find out if you live in one of these areas, and to sign up to the service, call: 0845 988 1188.

The risk to your insurance from flooding

Can you afford the reinstatement costs of having your property reinsured after being flooded?

The current payouts from insurance companies to flooded home owners range from £38,000 to £60,000.

However, three potential scenarios could arise with regard to reinsuring your home:

  1. Your insurance company won’t reinsure your home
  2. Your insurance premiums will drastically rise
  3. You will be asked to pay a huge excess of £10-20,000 to re-insure

Fitting your property with an approved flood defence system, like those provided by FLOODWALL, will help you to acquire sensibly priced insurance cover, normal premiums and minimal excess.

If you feel you are at risk and want to protect your property and investments from flooding, please contact Floodwall for free, no obligation advice and survey.
